Even Rabbits Have Drama

My Fine Arts writing moved on to Nationals! I went back and forth so much on my topic this year and didn't think that this one was my best work, but it surprised me by going on! I wrote this short story in January, so I'm very excited to finally be able to share it. I hope you enjoy "Even Rabbits Have Drama!" Saturday morning dawned, clear and cold. Serawyn hopped out her hutch door and stopped to twitch her velvety gray ears in anticipation of all that Jesus might have in store for her that day. All rabbits, being superior musicians, devote their Saturdays to a community practice session, and Serawyn was no different.   "Serawyn!" A khaki-colored doe tumbled down the hill. "Wait up!" "Oh my gosh, Lilith, you're so loud." A fluffy doe with silky, dark fur, Lyra sauntered down behind her. "Hi, Lilith! Hi, Lyra!" Serawyn grinned brightly. "Girl, your fur." Lyra pawed a few of the offensive strands. "You know si...

Baby Bunnies!!!!!!!!!

Image
They're here! These cuties arrived on March 26th. Here are some adorable pictures from the last couple weeks. These first two pictures were taken when the babies were about a week old. We call them "fuzzy hippopotamuses" at this stage. They just opened their eyes!!! Its a bunny pile! And finally, we have the most recent picture taken at three weeks old. They're starting to get fluffy! This is Serawyn, appropriately nicknamed "The Princess." She is very photogenic. Since she lives right next to the babies, you can only imagine her dismay when she realized that she was not the center of attention. After she tried for a solid ten minutes to fit her entire head through the wire, I rewarded her with a nose rub and a picture.  That's it! I hope you enjoyed a good dose of adorableness!  ~Just a Girl on the Homestead

Busy Life

It's been crazy lately! Between the rabbits and chickens doing exactly the opposite of anything I want them to, school just being school, and teaching piano, the writing has been put on hold for a little while. I have been enjoying the fresh air and lovely weather lately though! I found a few spots of green grass down by the creek and decided to take some pictures! The water was sparkling and looked very inviting. I had to remind myself that it was COLD. I hope you all are enjoying spring as much as I am! ~Just a Girl on the Homestead

Wooly Mischief

Image
Here's a short blurb I wrote about a litter of four Jersey Wooly bunnies that we raised last year, accompanied by an adorable picture of one of the main characters, Bernard.       “Hello, Lottie! Have you seen any of my kits lately?” Dahlia asked Lottie over the phone. All four of her kits had left an hour ago to visit Izzy, and hadn’t been seen since.      “Umm, I have two. Astrid and Bernard are playing with my two hooligans. I haven’t seen the other two though.”      “They were all supposed to go to Izzy’s, but according to her, they never showed up. Could you ask Astrid and Bernard where they went?”      After a short pause, Lottie was back on the phone.      “They told me the other two were kidnapped by sprites, to be sacrificed to the king of snakes, who preys mercilessly upon the poor, innocent sprites. That was their exact wording.”      “I should have known,” Dahlia said, ...

What I've Been Up To

Things have been kinda crazy over here, lately! Here are some of the things that have been happening! Chester, my favorite rabbit, decided to stop eating. After being inside for two weeks and gaining his appetite back, I moved him outside again, where he promptly went right back off his feed. I moved him back into my room, where he has remained for the couple weeks. He's absolutely thrilled about it, and takes delight in having my full attention.  I was having extreme trouble finding a decent book to read. I finally found one a day or two ago. It was a decent length, and with all my schoolwork, it took me a bit to finish it. After being in agony over finding out what happened in the end, I finally finished it. So, now I'm sad again because I don't have a book to read. It's a vicious cycle. I've been playing piano a lot lately. No surprise there. I've currently been memorizing Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven. I absolutely adore the grand octaves in it. I think I d...

Christmas in Fox Hollow

This story started out as a short blurb about Aravis and Sebastian's Christmas morning, but grew into a hilarious account of the entire day. I hope you enjoy this holiday adventure! “ITS CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Sebastian came sprinting down the stairway. Despite the fact that he was four years old and a mature adult, he still took great delight in getting up early on Christmas morning. “You overslept, ‘Bastian.” Aravis cocked an eyebrow at him. She was cooking Christmas breakfast. “No, I didn’t…WHAT? ITS NINE O CLOCK?!?!?!? “Unfortunately, yes. And we’d better open presents soon, otherwise breakfast is going to get cold. I thought you’d be up hours ago.” Aravis yawned. She’d stayed up most of the night at Ember’s Christmas Eve party. Then, she’d had to come home and wrap all of the gifts. She picked up her mug of coffee and followed a giddy Sebastian into the living room. “CAN WE OPEN THEM NOW?!?!?!?!” “Calm down, Sebastian! I know its Christmas, but that’s...

Christmas Kitties

Image
Our barn cats, Tom and Jerry, are the unfortunate victims of many of my little sisters' schemes. These schemes include anything from playing princess to being shoved down the swing set slide. The latest idea was Christmas pictures.  This is Tom. Pictures are his absolute favorite.  He's just sooooooooooooooo happy! And then he got to wear a bonnet! Jerry was even less thrilled than Tom was, so this is the best picture of him.  That's all for today! I hope you enjoyed these hilarious pictures as much as I did! ~Just a Girl on the Homestead  P.S. Tom wanted me to tell you that even though he looks very grumpy in the pictures he still enjoys Christmas very much. He didn't want anyone to think he was a grinch. Jerry, on the other hand, doesn't care what people think, as long as he still gets to nap under the Christmas tree.
