Rainbow Scones and Rabbits

One of my favorite things to do is write rabbit stories. My latest one is titled "Rainbow Scones," and I have decided to share it. It focuses on two of my favorite rabbits, Aravis and Silly.

It was a quiet morning for Aravis, who was sipping her cup of tea out on her porch. Or at least it was quiet, until…

“Good MORNING!!!!!!!!” Silly bounded up the steps, a basket over one arm, “Isn’t it gorgeous out today?!?”

“Mmm-hmm. Just lovely.” Aravis wanted to groan.

“And guess WHAT!?” Silly was bouncing around on her toes.

Aravis gravely sipped her tea. “What?”

“I brought SCONES!!!! With SPRINKLES on them!”

“Dear God, please give me patience.” Aravis prayed silently to herself, before turning to Silly. “Oh really? I just adore scones!”

“I KNOW! That’s why I brought them!”

“Would you like some tea with your scones?”

“Hmmmm. Sure!” Silly placed a huge plate of rainbow-speckled scones on Aravis’ picnic table. A minute later, Aravis came out with a cup of herbal tea for her.

“Now hurry up and eat one!!!!!!!!” Silly was wiggling around on her seat.

Aravis took a delicate bite. “They are…um…extremely… cheerful!” She was pretty sure there was more rainbow sprinkles than scone in that bite.

“I’m sooooooooo glad you like them!!!!!!!!” Silly squealed. “I should take some to Izzy tomorrow!”

“I’m sure she’ll just adore them.”

“OR,” Silly gasped, “We could have a PARTY!!!”

“Mmmm. A party.” Aravis choked down the last of her scone.

“And we could have rainbow streamers, and a rainbow tablecloth, and lots and lots of rainbow scones! And we can do it really soon!”

“Definitely.”

“How about TOMORROW!?!?!” Silly bounced around on Aravis’ porch, waving her half-eaten scone, and surrounded by a veil of falling sprinkles.

“Um, I kinda have plans tomorrow. But maybe you could give me your scones recipe, and I could make a big batch for Izzy’s tea party next week.”

“Okay!! I’ll run home and email it to you! And you can keep the rest of these scones!!” With that, Silly leapt off the porch and bounded toward her house, trailing sprinkles all the way.

Aravis sighed in relief as Silly disappeared around a bend. She had, once again, survived one of Silly’s tremendously creative, but epically awful culinary creations, that, when paired with her never-ending optimism, could be quite a “treat.”

Silly is the black and white rabbit. She really doesn't like pictures. Aravis is the black rabbit, who extremely enjoyed the whole picture-taking experience.
